How To Reconnect Outlook To Server?

Sometimes, when you make settings, you might have hurriedly checked the checkbox beside Work Offline, and this could be the reason for outlook not connecting, to check if this is the cause of the problem, go through the following:

  • Go to the Outlook menu.
  • In the Outlook menu, you get to see the option Work Offline, you need to uncheck this option if this has been checked.
  • Ensure that there is excellent network connectivity: A slow or no network could cause the outlook not to connect.

Another cause for the Outlook server not connecting to the network could be that the server that runs Microsoft Exchange Server is unavailable:

You are required to check the Microsoft Exchange server connection. Follow these steps to check if the server that runs Microsoft Exchange Server remains unavailable:

  • In Outlook only, go to the Tools menu.
  • Select Accounts.
  • In the left pane, observe the Exchange account. The indicator blinks orange if there has been an issue with the connection.

To troubleshoot this error, you are required to contact the Exchange administrator, and the administrator lets you know if the account requires an encrypted channel. If this is the cause of the problem, all you need to do is verify the setting for the channel:

  • Go to the Tools menu.
  • Select Accounts.
  • Select Account, which you can find in the left pane of the Accounts dialog box.
  • Choose Advanced.
  • In the Advanced section, choose the Server tab.
  • Go to Microsoft Exchange and Directory Service.
  • Under the options Microsoft Exchange and Directory Service, you need to select the check box of Use SSL to connect.

If the data files(.pst or .ost) in Outlook are susceptible to error, then, these could be the reason for the connectivity issue, so, to handle this issue, you need to go through the following steps to get connected:

  • Close outlook.
  • Go to the Control Panel.
  • Find the Mail icon.
  • In the resulting window,  click on Data Files.
  • In the list, search for the Data file.
  • Click on the Open File location.
  • Check for the data file with extension .ost and .pst
  • Rename the file that has the extension .ost to.OLD. however, you need not do anything for the file starting and ending with the extension .pst.
  • Close the windows.
  • Open Outlook.

However, for data files ending with the extension .pst, you can go through the following steps and run Scanpst on the file:

  • Use Windows Explorer and search for scanpst.exe.
  • Once you have found the file, all you need to do is double-click on the file and run the application accordingly.
  • In the resulting window, click on Browse.
  • Look for the .pst file.
  • Click on Start.

This may take a significant amount of time, depending on the data file size. Also, you are required to click on the Repair button if scanpst spots an error. Once the repair has been done, you are required to close Scanpst and reopen Outlook. Try the above steps for the error of the outlook server not connecting.
